What are the reasons for excessive fuel consumption in diesel generator sets during use and how should they be dealt with? If the unit experiences excessive fuel consumption after a long period of use, it may be due to severe wear of the piston rings and cylinder liners, causing serious air leakage. In this case, relevant parts need to be repaired or replaced. So if there is a problem of excessive fuel consumption with a new machine or a unit that has been in use for a short time, it may be the following problem. Let's take a look at the explanation provided by the diesel generator manufacturer.
The reasons for excessive fuel consumption in diesel generator sets depend on four aspects:
1. The better the sealing of the internal pressure of the high-pressure oil pump, the greater the pressure, which saves fuel. The low pressure of the oil pump and poor sealing cause the stroke of the high-pressure oil pump to increase during operation, resulting in insufficient diesel combustion and high fuel consumption.
2. The atomization degree of the fuel injector (commonly known as the nozzle). The better the spray, the more detailed the nozzle, the better the fuel economy. The nozzle is worn and the sealing is poor. The fuel injection is linear, obviously more than the oil sprayed during atomization. When the diesel enters the engine in time for combustion, it will be discharged, thus consuming a lot of fuel.
3. If the cylinder pressure inside the engine is low and the valve seal is poor, resulting in air leakage, the fuel consumption will be high; The high water temperature inside the diesel engine reduces the compression ratio, causing some diesel to be discharged at high temperatures, resulting in high fuel consumption.
4. The leakage of the turbocharger air pipe causes the air pressure pushed into the high-pressure oil pump during exhaust gas recirculation to be too low. When the throttle is increased, the oil pump cannot reach the required oil volume of the engine, resulting in insufficient engine power. Insufficient power leads to high fuel consumption (note: this turbocharged engine).
Solution to excessive fuel consumption in diesel generator sets:
1. Air filter blockage, clean the filter element or replace the filter element.
2. Fuel injector malfunction, check the fuel injector and replace or repair it according to the condition of the unit.
3. The fuel injection timing is incorrect. Adjust the fuel injection timing. Adjust according to different diesel engine models.
4. Fuel system leakage, check the fuel pipeline.
5. If the valve clearance does not meet the assembly requirements, check the wear of each part of the valve system, repair or replace the parts.
6. The fuel system is leaking oil. Check the fuel pump, plunger assembly, and outlet valve assembly. After inspection, repair or replace them according to the wear of the parts.
